WORLD SUPERBIKE
WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP
FINAL ROUND/NOVEMBER 2, 2014
LOSAIL CIRCUIT/LOSAIL, QATAR
P46
in the series standings, respec-
tively.
As well as Guintoli taking the
big crown, the one-season deal
of the Evo class was decided af-
ter race one at Losail. Kawasaki
SBK Evo's David Salom gave
his Spanish team some tangible
success after Sykes' late disap-
pointment, as he finished sec-
ond in the Evo category in race
one, then celebrated his overall
win with a narrow race two victory
over his previous challenger Nic-
colo Canepa in the second. Sa-
lom was 12th overall.
In the final tally of race wins,
new champion Guintoli can hold
his head high with five, but Sykes
took eight and Melandri six. Rea
piled in with four; Laverty had his
lone Aussie win.
Aprilia won the manufacturers'
title, by 37 points from Kawasaki,
and Aprilia Racing took the Team
Award by 14 points from KRT.
With the truncated 12-round
2014 season over, the 2015 sea-
son begins again for some of the
top teams very soon, with tests
coming up at Motorland Aragon
and Jerez in November. CN
