CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "The 500cc World Championship was always consid- ered the premiere class in Grand Prix motocross…" Where's The Smell? I really love the digital format… the only problem is it doesn't smell right. I was a long-time subscriber to the paper edition and used to enjoy the touch and feel of the magazine. But I understand we are no longer killing trees and that is probably a good thing. Just keep up the great work. I love the In The Wind stories and the sidebars on race coverage. Thanks for keeping the faith and good luck to Paul Carruthers. Jack A. Ballard Golden, CO He's A-Buzzed! At AIMExpo, I felt an industry abuzz with excitement - much the same as what's going on in our virtual, off-season Pro road-racing paddock. This re- inforced my feeling that Wayne Rainey salvaging American road racing is, on some levels, akin to Larry Little and compa- ny launching the new show. They're just the right people, with similar goals: American success on the world stage - and podium. Deeply embedded players in their domains, they stepped in at critical times with rock-solid backing, hired some of most accomplished people in their fields and are re-writing the rules. Wayne and Larry: Thank you for having the guts and vision to move our sport and industry into the future. Eric Putter Via the Internet Putter was the AMA Super- bike Championship Media Relations Manager in 2008… Editor. 250s vs. 500s I feel compelled to correct my friend Justin Quinn's statement in his letter last week, I quote, "...I think through the test of time the 250cc two-strokes were always the premiere classes." The 500cc World Championship was always considered the premiere class in Grand Prix motocross and the most difficult to win in - as evidenced by the fact that only one American has ever won it and it took him 10 years of try- ing before he was able to pull it off. Steve Bauer Via the Internet To The Point I wanted to thank you for a great online magazine. I really enjoy it. Austin Stevens Via the Internet Send Kocinski Dear Marc Marquez (by way of Cycle News): If you want to add a little fun and excitement to your Super- prestigio dirt track event, why not invite John Kocinski too? That would prove interesting, I think. Come on, I dare you. Roger Pattison Via the Internet Bedfellows? Thanks for publishing Mel Joos' letter regarding Harley being in bed with the AMA. He said what a lot of fans are think- ing. You can extend that to drag racing and road racing (XR1200 dinosaur series) as well. Bill Hyde Oviedo, FL A Relative Letter Firstly, how can your story, "Lane Splitting Deemed Safe" (Issue #43, In the Wind) contra- dict itself in the very first sen- tence "lane splitting is relatively safe..." Secondly, give names and titles of published studies or it didn't happen. Thirdly, to recap the findings, when driving or riding within the parameters of the law, driving or riding is kinda safe. Great work, guys. Andy Moore Downey, CA Thanks for your letter. Kinda…. Editor Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News. Letters should not exceed 150 words and are subject to editing. Anonymous letters won't be considered for publication and each letter should contain the writer's name, address and daytime phone number… Editor P16
