The Trans-AMA MX Series was featured on the front page 40 years ago.
Jim West led the 500cc MX troops into the first turn at the 96 Rock Cycle
News International Trans-AMA race at Road Atlanta. Roger DeCoster went
on to win; Marty Smith won the Support class… We took a close look at a
Honda CR250 two-stroke motocrosser that was fitted with an XL four-stroke
motor for desert racing. We called it the
XLsinore… More than 600 riders turned
out for the Fools Gold Enduro in California.
30 Years Ago October 31, 1984
Yamaha's V-Max made its debut and we featured the motorcycle hot-rod on
the cover 30 years ago… The second-to-last round of the Insport/Wrangler
Supercross Series played out in Oakland's Alameda County Coliseum, where
Ron Lechien, David Bailey and Rick Johnson went 1-2-3… The CMC
Trans-Cal Series visited Sand Hill Ranch and Erik Kehoe, Eric Eaton and
Danny Chandler were the big winners… We had an interview with Steve
McLaughlin, the man behind the International Superbike Master Series.

Valentino Rossi made front-page news for
claiming his fourth straight World Champion-
ship. He capped off the year with a win in Australia… We were there when
Doug Henry won the AMA Supermoto National at Del Mar… We covered the
World Suzuki Cup at Road Atlanta, which was won by Robert Jenson…
Barry Hawk won the Power Line Park GNCC but Rodney Smith closed in
on the title… Russell Pearson topped Kurt Caselli and Nathan Woods at
the Berthound, Colorado, round of the WORCS series.

It was a big day for Chris Carr who was pictured on the cover 20 years ago.
Carr wrapped up a record-setting fifth AMA dirt track championship with his

career win at the season final at Del Mar… We had an interview with
500cc Motocross World Champion Marcus Hansson… We featured some
of the hottest bike from the IFMA Cologne Motorcycle Show… Suzuki's
Rodney Smith claimed the AMA Hare Scrambles Championship in Silver
City, Idaho.
