10 years later, he was back on
top.
"What a race!" Rossi said. "To
come back and win again at one
of the most beautiful and favorite
circuits… I was strong from the
beginning, but a mistake in quali-
fying meant I started from eighth
position. That is a lot. A lot more
difficult in the MotoGP of now."
He gained places in the early
corners, and saw Marquez and
Lorenzo leading. "When I got to
third [on lap three] I was only one
second behind Jorge [Lorenzo],
and I concentrated on him, be-
cause Marc [Marquez] was too
fast."
They had a spirited battle from
the ninth lap until the 17th, chang-
ing places several times. Then it
was won, and then "I saw Marc
crash, and I thought... I can do it."
Lorenzo had out-qualified Ros-
si, and should have been harder
Cal Crutchlow (35) looked to have
second place in the bag after
working his way around Lorenzo
(99), but the Brit crashed half a
lap from the finish line.
