WHAT THE FLAG?
What was otherwise a perfect
evening for Cody Webb was
marred by a substantial misun-
derstanding in the main event. It
seems not everyone was aware
that the race had been bumped
from its usual 12 laps to 15 laps.
The false white flag came out af-
ter lap 11, leading Webb to believe
his race was over the following
lap. He stopped at the finish line
and was ready to celebrate his
win before realizing the race was
still going on. Although Webb's
lead was big enough that his win
wasn't in danger of slipping away,
he was still displeased at the
misunderstanding.
"I kept hearing I was the win-
ner over the whole loud speak-
er," Webb said. "I was really
thrown off; I'm heated about that
but to be able to run away with a
win like that and even stop twice
thinking I won, and get the win,
it's huge."
Most riders were somewhat
affected by the mishap, but not
all were fooled by the false white
flag.
"I was [caught up in it] but
anyway, I had my mechanic on
the side of the track so I stuck to
what he was showing," Blazusiak
said. "I guess the other guys
should have done the same."
Defending
champ Taddy
Blazusiak
struggled with
mistakes but still
finished second
in the feature.
