son said. "Finished it off strong. I
guess I can't complain too much
that I ended up third in the cham-
pionship and had a shot all the
way to the end."
Johnson scored points in ev-
ery round, was never outside the
top 10 and scored eight podiums.
The consistency paid off, but not
enough in a tough championship.
Now he's taking the momentum
and renewed confidence into
next season.
"We kind of had to fight through
some things this year; had a lot of
different motorcycles," Johnson
said. "A lot of different things go-
ing on… I think we did well. Go-
ing on that and see what we'll do
next year. I'm a little disappoint-
ed, but we finished off strong.
The last couple years they were
pretty tough on me. And after this
season I know I've still got it and
can still run for a championship.
All in all it's pretty positive."
Also with revived confidence
and momentum was third-place
finisher Brad Baker on the factory
Harley-Davidson. To say Baker's
season defending his number
one plate did not go as planned is
a bit of an understatement. Injury,
bad luck, and struggling to adjust
to the new team made for a very
rough season, but that all turned
Smith was
unbeatable at Po-
mona – winning
his heat race, the
Dash for Cash
and leading every
lap of the main.
