FISHER'S RACE,
JOHNSON'S
TITLE
As it was for Bryan Smith, TJ
Burnett Farms Honda's Davis Fisher's
perfect night was still not enough
to stop championship leader Kyle
Johnson and his Parkinson Brothers
Racing Honda from taking home his
first Pro Singles title. So the story was
about the same in the Pro Singles
Championship, though the margin was
closer as Kyle Johnson needed to fin-
ish second to win the title.
"Going into the race I knew if he
won all I had to do was get second to
win the championship," Johnson said.
"And the championship was our goal
so that's all I was worried about. So
I had no reason to push it and I just
kind of rode a safe race right there in
second place and brought it home."
Perhaps making the championship
all that sweeter was coming back from
a nasty crash at the previous round
in Calistoga that put Johnson in the
hospital for a few days, left him with
a broken hand and threatened his
championship hopes. But the 20-year
old from Twin Lake, Michigan, was not
going to let that get in the way of earn-
ing his first championship.
"It feels great," Johnson said.
"We've definitely had some ups and
downs this season. I have a broken
hand; had a little rough get off at Calis-
toga. It feels great to get the champi-
onship. It was what we were shooting
for from the start of the season and
it just feels great to be able to come
away with it."
Johnson's championship rival
Fisher also knows too well about the
ups and downs of the season as it was
only his second race back from an
ugly crash at Indy that sidelined him
for two races and threatened to end
his season. So while Fisher came up
one point short in the championship,
Two-time Grand
National Champion
Jake Johnson (5)
finished second,
ending the year on a
high note and taking
a solid third in the
championship.
