OFF ROAD GEICO AMA ENDUROCROSS SERIES ROUND 6/OCTOBER 11, 2014 ENERGY SOLUTIONS ARENA/SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH P78 My Own Race: #114 TY TREMAINE 7 TH PLACE What nearly started out as a disastrous night turned into a career-best finish for RPM KTM's Ty Tremaine. "My night actually went from really bad to really good. I went down in the first turn in my heat race, got up made my way back to fifth. It was kind of a rough race for me. So I just kind of cooled my jets, got back to the pits, regrouped, went out in my LCQ. I thought it was going to be another bad race, but I pulled it together and ended up getting second, so I made another main. From there I just told myself to ride my own race in the main event. For some reason, I've been struggling with overriding my bike. I was planning on doing good tonight but it's mentally hard when you come out for your first couple races and do so bad. In the main event, I just pulled myself together, had a couple good battles and then ended up getting seventh. That's my best finish so far. This year I've been in in every main event except Las Ve- gas. I'm making progress but I want to be one of the names to be afraid of." #696 NOAH KEPPLE 11 TH PLACE It was clear from celebratory outburst after finishing sec- ond in the LCQ that Noah Kepple had just qualified for his first main event. "I was super excited!" Kepple said. "Dur- ing the LCQ, it was me, [Cory] Graffunder and Destry [Ab- bott]. I knew it was going to be a tight race and it was going to be really tough. Last weekend in Denver I missed the main event by one spot so I wanted some redemption re- ally bad. I was super pumped when I was third around the first lap and then Destry went down about halfway through. I was freaking out inside my head but just trying hard not to freak out too much because I didn't want to blow it. I just rode really consistent and it was just smooth sailing the last lap or so and I made my first main event. My main ended up good. I struggled with just typical racing experience. Every time the blue flag would come out the fast guy would go by me but then a lapper would go by me as well. I learned a little bit and now I know better for next time." #93 SANDRA GOMEZ 1 ST PLACE WOMEN'S PRO Husqvarna's Spanish import Sandra Gomez had a break- through win in the Women's class, celebrating her career- first AMA EnduroCross win in Salt Lake City. "I haven't gotten any victory in X Games or SuperEnduro or Enduro- Cross so this is my first time, my first victory. I'm very hap- py! I started well, in fourth place. In the middle of the first lap I was battling with Tarah [Gieger] and another rider on the double. I was passed by Tarah, but I stayed first on the first lap. I didn't have any mistakes in the rocks or anything; I was very calm. I looked back and saw Tarah [doing jumps that I wasn't doing]. I did the jump in the practice, but didn't think it was necessary for the win today. I don't like the jumps because I've only been doing enduro for one year, so I need to practice more motocross and Supercross." Mike Brown came within one lap of making the podium. Colton Haaker couldn't ride the momentum wave after last week's win. A fifth-place finish dropped him out of the points lead.
