ero Motorcycles introduced
its 2015 model line last week
and the changes come via
big upgrades to the componentry
on the new electric motorcycles
– Showa suspension and Bosch
anti-lock brakes. The Zeros also
now get Pirelli tires.
And all of that comes with a
price increase of just $400.
The refinements come to
motorcycles that over the past
few years have featured
increased speed and
range, but have
been criticized for
their brakes and
suspension.
According to Zero, the range
has again been increased
10 percent on the Zero S,
Zero SR and Zero DS. When
combined with the Power Tank
accessory ($2495), this yields
a range of up to 185 miles
in the city, 94 miles on the
highway at 70 mph or 115 miles
at 55 mph.
The Zeros also get cast alloy
wheels on the Zero S, Zero SR
and Zero DS that incorporate
a carrier-less front rotor and
hollow front axle to reduce
unsprung weight, according to
Zero. The bikes also get new
mirrors with improved visibility
and better seat ergonomics
and softer grips on the
handlebars.
The bikes also get what Zero
calls "a more robust throttle
that controls the Z-Force
motor's instantaneous torque."
The new bikes are expected
in the U.S. in December. The
MSRP for each of the models
is: Zero S (ZF9.4) $13,345,
Zero S (ZF12.5) $15,345,
Zero SR (ZF12.5) $17,345,
Zero DS (ZF9.4) $13,345,
Zero DS (ZF12.5)
$15,345, Zero FX (ZF2.8)
$9,845 and Zero FX
(ZF5.7) at $12,340.
The 2015 Zero SR, and
the rest of the Zero
line, gets an upgrade in
suspension and brakes.
