>>HIGH FIVE
FOR SYKES
A literal up-and-down season for Tom Sykes
has got a whole lot better in the past few
rounds in Superpole, as he has taken four of
the last five and a total of five through the year
after this success at Magny-Cours.
None were better than this as he put in a
new track best of 1:36.366, beating his own
previous best lap from 2012. He looked like he
was trying hard and he admitted he was, but it
was a remarkable performance considering he
had crashed out of the free practice session
only a short time before.
"We took the fastest lap and it is part of our
job title," Sykes said. "I was slowly gaining con-
fidence this weekend, but in the crash I had
too much lean angle and too much brakes but
there was no worries. And the boys have me
back on my little beauty for Superpole."
Sykes had not been dominant early in the
weekend as he tried to find his feet in what is
his first chance to win the title outright, and
the main thing for him was to get a clear track
ahead of him at the start of the races.
"My target today was very clear – it is always
to get onto the front row at every race, but
