MOTOCROSS 68 TH MONSTER ENERGY FIM MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS SEPTEMBER 28, 2014 KEGUMS CIRCUIT/KEGUMS, LATVIA P62 >>KEGUMS QUOTES… "I broke my big toe and foot in three places but I did the best I could. I want to thank Roger [DeCoster] for select- ing me and congratulations to France because they brought their A-game. I felt like we all worked well together and I hope for another opportunity like this again in the future. The track was rough, maybe one of the roughest I have ridden in a while, and I had a blast. The foot injury is no excuse; I learned a lot and sometimes you do that more when you are down than when you win." — Jeremy Martin. "I had a nasty tip over in the first lap. I started dead last and had to work my way up to 11th. I did the best I could and I think I would have been right up front if I didn't have that tip over. Team USA did an awesome job, we did our best and that's all we can do."— Ryan Dungey. "Usually we've done alright on Saturday and messed up Sunday; we thought we'd flip it around this time." — Chad Reed. Reed was being optimis- tic during the Teams Presenta- tion on Saturday night. Unfor- tunately, things didn't get any better Sunday. "A slow guy just took my line. It was a big crash. We'll see but today was pretty good." — Tim Gajser. The Slovakia and HRC MX2 star talked about his crash and riding to third in the MX Open qualification heat with a sore neck and broken rib. The 18-year-old was later taken to the hospital and diagnosed with broken fifth and sixth vertebrae. "I've been practicing my starts at home this week…and I always got the holeshot." — Tommy Searle. The Brit was back on an MX2 bike for the first time since 2012 and trying to bury memories of his double DNF due to technical problems that season, which largely de- railed his championship hopes against Jeffrey Herlings. Searle had struggled for decent starts all year in MXGP. "He's a little beaten-up but okay."— Yamaha/Team USA staff. This was the verdict after Jeremy Martin's MX2 qualifi- cation crash. It later emerged the AMA champ was nursing a broken toe in his right foot. "There was a lot of people, around 160. It was really nice. No ambulances were called."— Roger DeCoster. The five-time World Champion talked about his 70th birthday celebrations only weeks before the Nations. "I knew I had to win or fin- ish in the top three to have a chance to be on the podium. I had to push very hard and always on the limit. I made a big mistake and made a big crash and went down hard on my knee. I was in a lot of pain in the second moto so I was not on my top speed in my second race."— Italy's Antonio Cairoli. "Not such a good day for the team overall and Antonio [Cai- roli] crashed and had a lot of pain. I did the best I could and now it is time to stop after a dif- ficult year and see where and how we can improve things for 2015." — Italy's David Philip- paerts. "I'm really disappointed we didn't make the podium. We were sitting in third un- til Shaun's [Simpson] chain snapped and that took the joy out of my individual win a bit be- cause I wanted to be up there on the podium with the team. I did the best I could today. It has been a terrible year for me and I'm glad to end it on a good note." — Great Britain's Tommy Searle. Searle was the top MX2-class finisher in the second moto. "For a while I've been looking to win both motos and domi- nate a weekend and I almost did it at Arco di Trento [Grand Prix of Trentino], but a stone ru- ined my engine and I was really sad. To come back from injury and win both at the Motocross of Nations…now I can be happy. There is really nothing more I can say right now." — Team France's Gautier Paulin.
