P134 40 Years Ago October 8, 1974 We tested the new Can-Am 250 MX1, which was featured in action on the cover 40 years ago… Only 20 percent of the 300-rider field finished the dusty and dry CRC Rawhide Grand Prix in Lake Elsinore, California… How does "King" Dick Burleson prep his championship-winning Husky for en- duros? He showed us all the tricks… Jim Pomeroy, Brad Lackey, Jimmy Weinert and Tony DiStefano combined ef- forts to finish second in the Motocross des Nations in Sweden, where the home team came away with the victory. 30 Years Ago October 10, 1984 It's the time of year when the manufacturers reveal their new models, and we showed you many of them, including the latest YZ motocrossers from Yamaha and Honda's VF1000R that were featured on the cover 30 years ago… The Insport/Wrangler Supercross Series made its 13 th stop at the Cal-Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, where factory Honda's David Bailey, Johnny O'Mara and Bob Hannah went 1-2-3… Bubba Shobert shined when it was wet at the AMA Grand National Championship/Camel Pro Se- ries road race at Mid-Ohio. 10 Years Ago October 6, 2004 Regis Laconi was pictured on the cover 10 years ago for winning the World Superbike round at Imola… Kevin Atherton returned to the DuQuin Mile where, five years earlier, he nearly lost his life in a crash. This time he won and Chris Carr took the crown… The ISDE was held in Poland where Team USA finished a disappointing ninth, but we certainly had something to cheer about with Kurt Caselli finishing third in the 250 class and 10 th overall. Fin- land proved to be the dominant team. 20 Years Ago October 5, 1994 We made the short trip to the John Zink Ranch in Oklahoma to cover the 69 th ISDE that was staged in the U.S. for the first time since 1973. Italy took the win with the U.S. taking ninth after suffering mechanical issues and the withdrawal of U.S. Trophy Team rider Scott Summers due to injury. Ty Davis was the top- finishing American rider… We remembered dirt tracker Nick Nicholson who had recently passed away at the age of 70… We also went on a road trip to Spain to visit the Montesa/Honda and Gas Gas factories.
