AMA GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 15/SEPTEMBER 27, 2014
CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY/CALISTOGA, CALIFORNIA

out that Pomona hasn't always
been good to him and the same
goes for Mees.
"I've won the race and champi-
onship there before and I've also
finished 15
th
there before," John-
son said. "So it's one of those
tracks where it seems like it's al-
ways different every time we go
there. Not really sure what you're
going to get. I think when I won
it was pretty hard packed, pretty
smooth. We've gone there before
where it's been giant holes, super
deep dirt. So it's kind of one of
those mysteries you don't know
what you're going to get until you
get there. I know Bryan goes well
there, he's always done well at
Pomona. Jared's kind of had his
ups and downs at Pomona and
so have I. So it's going to be in-
teresting. Jared's definitely got
the upper hand. So he's going to
probably be in defense mode so
we're going to have to go in and
attack and see what happens."
Mees acknowledged that he
struggles at Pomona, but he too
has clinched a Grand National
Championship there. And when
he clinched it, he went into Po-
mona with an eight-point lead over
Halbert – even less of a cushion
than he has now. So Mees goes
into Pomona with a lot of confi-
dence and those 13 points.
"I feel really good," Mees said.
"I'm excited to go to Pomona. It's
a track that I like, but a track that
I haven't excelled a whole lot at.
But I'm ready to change that." CN
