We ran a photo of "Rocket" Rex Staten on a very trick 410cc Honda four-
stroke taken during the Evel Knievel Motocross in Wyoming… We were in
Terre Haute, Indiana, where Corky Keener won the Action Track Half Mile and
Kenny Roberts sewed up the Grand National Championship… The issue also
had our coverage of the inaugural Toledo Half Mile won by Rex Beauchamp…
Lane Leavitt claimed the win at the U.S. National Trials in Rhode Island… We
covered A.C. Bakken's win at the Desert Vipers
M.C. Hare & Hound.

A "spy" photo of Yamaha's all-new FZ750 was featured on the cover 30 years
ago… Alex Jorgensen took top honors at the TT National at Ascot Park…
We were also at Ascot to cover Scott Pearson's victory in the Half Mile
National… Team USA—Jeff Ward, Broc Glover, Rick Johnson and Johnny
O'Mara—had little trouble claiming the overall victory at the Trophee des
Nations in Sweden… We covered the opening round of the CMC Trans-Cal
Series at Huron, California, where Johnny O'Mara, Broc Glover and Danny
Chandler captured the overall wins.

Camel Honda's Makota Tamada was pictured on the cover for winning the
Japan MotoGP in Motegi… Chris Carr pulled off a big win at the Columbus
Half Mile… We tested the Bimota SB8K Gobert Replica… We followed
along with Kevin Schwantz who was competing in the Bol d'Or in France…
Team Suzuki's Broc Hepler was named AMA Motocross/Supercross Rookie
of the Year… We took an inside look of the Suzuki Flat Track Team that was
trying to make headway on the ovals.

Troy Corser made front-page news for clinching the AMA National Superbike
title at Road Atlanta, where Scott Russell came away with the race win. Also
on the cover was CN associate editor Chris Jonnum who relived his account
of competing in the Nevada Rally…Team USA saw its winning streak in the Mo-
tocross des Nations snapped at 13. In Switzerland, the three-man team—Kurt
Nicoll, Rob Herring and Paul Malin—from Great Britain edged out the U.S.
squad made up of Mike LaRocco, Jeff Emig
and Mike Kiedrowski.
