ries in Michigan. DeLong would
strike again, winning the eighth
round in Colorado, leaving the
Pennsylvania rider with a com-
fortable lead in the series stand-
ings.
Coming into the series finale in
Indiana, DeLong held a comfort-
able 22-point lead in the stand-
ings, however, there was still
plenty of pressure to prove he
was worthy of the title, and De-
Long admitted being pretty ner-
vous before the race.
"I puked a couple of times this
morning," said DeLong. "They
said all I had to do was just go out
there and ride, but when you're
a racer you want to go out there
and win."
DeLong was fourth fastest at
the end of the first test of the day
and admitted later that he crashed
at least twice in every test. After a
conversation with team manager
Andy Jefferson, DeLong concen-
trated on being smooth, and his
test times started to improve. In
the final two tests, DeLong was
second only to overall winner
Russell Bobbitt and he finished
off the day in third overall, more
