VOL. 51 ISSUE 37 SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 P47
(Left) Cameron Beaubier (2)
sprinted out to an early lead in
Sunday's dry race, but he ended
up crashing out while trying to stay
with Hayes.
(Below) Martin Cardenas (36) leads
Bernat Martinez (76) and Chris
Fillmore (11) in Sunday's National.
Martinez opened some eyes with
his fourth-place finish in the race.
1.6-second lead, but Hayes was
back on the charge and chipping
away at it. That set up a great
mid-race battle between the two
Yamaha riders. After a few laps of
dicing, it all went wrong for Beau-
bier.
"I was pushing and saw that
Josh was catching me on my pit
board," Beaubier said. "I just kind
of settled into a pace because I
knew he was going to catch me
anyway, because he's been a
little faster than me all weekend.
He caught me and I slotted in right
behind him and I felt good doing
his pace. It came pretty easy to
me and I felt like I was faster than
him in some areas and he got me
pretty good in some other areas.
He made a little mistake coming
on to the front straight and I went
to pass him coming in on the
brakes and just washed the front
out. I almost saved it and then
the rear just came around and I
crashed."
That left Hayes all alone in
front, some seven seconds
ahead of Yoshimura's Cardenas
and Hayden, who were now bat-
tling for second. Bernat Martinez
was back to fourth after Chris
Fillmore turned up missing on
scoring charts suffering another
DNF on his factory KTM. David
Anthony ran fifth.
