Pirelli's Business Unit Moto and
Head of Superbike project for
the Milanese Company since
2001: "When we first believed in
the single tire supplier solution
to reduce the cost of motorcy-
cle racing, some were reluctant
and some feared that the quality
of both the races and the tires
would have been affected," said
Giorgio Barbier, activities direc-
tor of Pirelli's Business Unit Moto
and head of the Superbike proj-
ect. "This has not been the case,
as the single tire supply allows
the tire manufacturer to make de-
velopments, then available to all
motorcyclists."
BACH BLASTS BLACKHAWK MAXC
H
onda rider Chris Bach cap-
tured the overall win at the
Blackhawk AMA MAXC cross-
country race in Plymouth, Indi-
ana, on Sunday.
The win, however, didn't come
easily, as he had to overcome a
bad start and work his way up
through the pack. Then he had to
battle it out for a while with early
leader Mike Witkowski. He even-
tually got ahead of Witkowski and
pulled away for the victory, lead-
ing the last four laps of the six-lap
race.
Witkowski put in a strong effort
and ended up finishing a close
second on his KTM.
Chris Douglas rounded out the
MAXC Pro bike podium. Starting
the race around midpack, Doug-
las was sitting sixth at the end of
lap one but was charging hard.
Douglas began to find his groove
and made his way into fourth by
lap three, and then he eventually
took over the third spot where he
would finish for the day.
