IN THE WIND P24 Terenzano, Torun and Gorican. So he was ecstatic to bring his dry spell to an end by topping the rostrum in Denmark alongside wild card Peter Kildemand, who was second, and third-placed Krzysztof Kasprzak. Jonsson had not reached a GP final this season and faced the prospect of dropping out of the World Championship for the first time since he made his de- but in 2002. But he is now just five points adrift of the top-eight place needed to get an automatic spot for the 2015 series. "This means a lot because it makes me angry when I know I've got the ability to ride well," Jonsson said. "When I'm not go- ing well, it just feels terrible. I still feel I haven't showed the best of myself yet. It has been a disaster. It has been a really, really tough couple of years. Kasprzak made huge strides towards the World Championship with his 12-point haul. He is now third overall – just a point behind Britain's Tai Woffinden in second. More importantly, he is only eight adrift of series leader Greg Han- cock, who sat out the Nordic GP with a broken hand. Woffinden raced through the pain of a broken left hand to score a handy seven points, cutting Hancock's pre-event 14-points in half. With just two rounds to go in Stockholm on September 27 and Torun on October 11, there is everything to race for in the GP series. John Hipkiss GRESINI TO APRILIA! L ong-time Hon- da team owner Fausto Gresini is to switch to run the new Aprilia factory MotoGP team next year, with a four- year deal that runs through the 2018 season. The Thursday a n n o u n c e m e n t confirmed one of the paddock's many worst-kept secrets, but re- tained the element of surprise: two-time 125cc World Champion Gresini has had strong links with Honda for well over 10years, running factory-spec bikes for a string of riders including Daijiro Kato, Sete Gibernau and Marco Simoncelli. Gresini has run into financial problems, with his title sponsor Go&Fun out for next year, and having reportedly not paid in full for this year either. The rider line-up is yet to be confirmed, although current Gresini rider Alvaro Bautista is expected to be one of them, and Marco Melandri – currently rid- PHOTOGRAPHY BY GOLD & GOOSE It's official: Fausto Gresini will run the Aprilia MotoGP team for the next four years. continued on page 26
