Pata Honda's Jonathan Rea
pushed his way to two strong re-
sults again and was pleased to
do so having had a new engine
spec to use this weekend, with-
out any prior testing.
With his fourth- and fifth-place
finishes, only the third and fourth
of Davies was more impressive
on what was an Aprilia and Kawa-
saki day.
With Aprilia and Kawasaki
dominating almost all of the past
12 races, anybody inside the top
six deserves praise, as they are
in a way reaching podium equiva-
lency. Thus two sixth places for
Eugene Laverty on the Voltcom
Crescent Suzuki were good
results on a day when cooler
weather hurt his cause.
The Evo class saw Kawasaki's
David Salom the victor in race
one after a recent hand opera-
tion, and then BMW Motorrad
Italia's Sylvain Barrier won the
second, after Salom crashed out
without injury.
In the championship fight, and
it is now more of a fight, Sykes
>>LORENZO TALKS WORLD
SUPERBIKE
MotoGP superstar Jorge Loren-
zo was in Jerez on Sunday, working
as an ambassador for World Super-
bike sponsor Alfa Romeo, and he
gave a short interview to us about
his impressions of the 'other' World
Championship.
What do you think about
World Superbike? The show, the
races?
Superbike always has been
a spectacular sport with lots of
overtaking and fights. It is much
different than MotoGP, obviously,
because they are streetbikes.
There is something special in the
fact that people can see the riders
using bikes that they can buy in
the shop. This is very nice. Today
has been a blessing for me to
share one day with the Superbike
paddock and fans because I do
not have any pressure and I do not
have to race. Obviously, a Sunday
without pressure is nice for me. I
also saw a lot of riders that I had
lots of fights with on track or shared
a championship with, but who are
in this championship now. [Toni]
Elias, [Marco] Melandri, [Claudio]
Corti, [Chaz] Davies – a lot of riders
I used to share competition with.
Maybe Melandri goes back to
MotoGP again, and after two wins
again in World Superbike at Jerez
maybe he can still be a force?
Maybe it is possible that Me-
landri and I can race together in
GP. I asked him today, but he did
not have his direction clear yet.
What can Dorna do here to
make World Superbike more
popular?
Spain is very difficult for Dorna
with Superbike because MotoGP
is very popular and the fans are
normally thinking too much about
MotoGP. In England, Germany, the
forces are more equal. Maybe a
little bit more MotoGP, but it is not
so much different. Here in Spain it
is difficult because the tradition of
MotoGP is so big.

spectator at the Jerez round.
