T
he 10th round of the Super-
bike World Championship - in
front of a sparse crowd but on
a dry track surface - saw more dra-
mas than there were people, as usu-
al, with two new champions in the
smaller classes and a double win by
Aprilia Racing's Marco Melandri that
will live long in the memory.
Melandri, who has gone from ear-
ly season unhappiness to a reliable
winner of five races including these
two on his Aprilia, was untouchable
despite not leading in any of the ear-
ly stages. He passed his own team-
mate Sylvain Guintoli - who had been
riding as hard as his tires could carry
him in each race – and in doing so
he robbed 10 precious points from
the Frenchman over the course of
the day.
