IN THE WIND P28 through Redgate, but I was al- most launched out of my seat but managed to stay on," Byrne said. "I gave 150 percent, but was not close enough to challenge. The consolation is that I gained points on my nearest rival Josh Brookes and am ready for the Showdown." Kiyonari held on to the victory. "In the first race I was under a lot of pressure and it was very difficult," he said. "In the second race I led all the laps, but I was pushing so hard to stay ahead of Shakey [Byrne]. I gave everything because I knew that Shakey was always there. I am very happy, but very tired after today. Now I want the title." Tommy Bridewell, who was al- ready assured of a place in the Showdown, finished third ahead of his Milwaukee Yamaha teammate Josh Brookes in the opener, then crashed the next time out while Brookes grabbed third. Brookes is now 26 points behind Byrne. MORE DUCATIS? D ucati is going full steam ahead for the World Superbike Championship in 2015, with the next of its regular monthly Mugello tests being the first in which development for 2015 will take precedence over what they have for 2014. Any improve- ments Ducati finds may still make it onto the 2014 grid for the final two rounds, but for Ducati, with Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies definitely signed up next year, the future starts now. Other possible Ducati teams are Althea – if there are no April- ias to be had – and Barni Racing, who will be able to take the jump up to World Superbike with much less budget than in pre- vious years. They can get factory level electronics for a very reduced cost, and have a long experience with the Panigale. Brit Leon Haslam has been linked to this ride. Gordon Ritchie Will Leon Haslam be on a satellite Ducati team next year in World Superbike? PHOTOGRAPHY BY GOLD & GOOSE WORLD SUPERBIKE TECH: THE EBR F orget the full factory Japa- nese or exotic Italian offer- ings - the most technically inter- esting machine on the 2014 grid is, undoubtedly, the Hero EBR 1190 RX. When it first turned up at round one in Australia, having been homologated and having a race team created in five minutes flat in relation to most others, it was lauded as a great effort of logistics and sheer willpower all around. A fuel tank that was also the chassis, an additional alloy fuel tank under the seat to make it reach the 24-litre (6.3 gallons) limit, a no-link rear suspen- sion unit between the top of the swingarm and the chassis, one big perimeter style front brake and massive brake caliper, a swingarm with an open inside to its otherwise box-section/cast design… uniqueness and inter- est were omnipresent partners in the funky Buell. It was breathlessly different from anything else on track.
