VOL. 51 ISSUE 35 SEPTEMBER 3, 2014 P79 Briefly... Randy Hawkin's AmPro Yamaha team is based in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, not far from the Big Buck area where the Little Brown Jug was held, so in addition to his top enduro racer, Brad Bakken, Hawkins brought his entire GNCC team, as well, including Paul Whib- ley, Josh Strang, Jordan Ashburn and Ricky Russell. The final round of the series in Mat- thews, Indiana, will include the end-of-the-year awards banquet on Sunday, as well as a special tribute dinner on Saturday for eight-time Na- tional champ Mike Lafferty, who is retiring at the end of the season after 20 years of racing. For 2015, Laffer- ty says that in addition to his duties with KTM's Ride Orange program, he will have more to do with the AMA National Enduro Series. One of the eight-time national enduro champ's duties will be to ride the courses before each round and making sure they're up to NEPG specs. Russell Bobbitt was pleased with his sixth-place finish, considering he had only started riding about two weeks before the race. "I'm pretty happy with my results for the day and my knee actually feels pretty good after a long, rough day," said Bobbitt. "It's just one step at a time getting back into racing and this was my first race back in a long time, so it feels great to be back on the bike and to be racing again." Charlie Mullins was a spectator during Saturday's proceedings at the Little Brown Jug. The defending se- ries champ rode his bicycle over 100 miles from his home just to visit. Mul- lins is recovering from wrist injuries continued on next page Grant Baylor claimed his very first AMA National Enduro win and became the fifth different winner this season. HOME
