VANDERKOOI SWEEPS SPRINGFIELD
Jarod Vanderkooi once again was
victorious in the Pro Twins final Spring-
field Mile, riding his Johnny's Vintage
Motorcycle Kawasaki to a 2.257-sec-
ond margin victory over up-and-comer
Molly Terry on her B&B Racing Har-
ley-Davidson. Dalton Winkler rounded
out the podium on the Van Leeuwen
Distributing Kawasaki.
At the spring Springfield Mile
Pro Twins race, Vanderkooi won in
dominating fashion. This time he faced
stiffer competition and still proved
up to the challenge. Even though he
led the entire 12 laps, Vanderkooi
had company in the form of Brandon
Wilhelm and Terry. Wilhelm's bike
broke with a couple of laps to go and
that allowed Vanderkooi to get a little
breathing room in the closing laps.
"I thought Brandon was still behind
me," Vanderkooi said. "I held the
bottom [line] pretty good and I ended
up pulling it off and it feels great. The
strategy was to get the holeshot, stay
consistent and not slip off the groove.
It all paid off."
Vanderkooi said he was glad he
made it to the finish since his bike
began running poorly in the final laps
of the race.
Terry won her first career heat race
earlier in the day, giving the big crowd
at the Illinois State Fairgrounds plenty
to cheer about. In the main, she sat
third most of the race, then slid into
the number-two spot when Wilhelm's
Sylvester Farms Harley-Davidson gave
out.
"I couldn't feel better, I can tell you
that much," Terry said. "This year, I
