MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 12/AUGUST 31, 2014
SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT/NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, ENGLAND
P46
RINS WINS
Unusually the last race of the day
rather than the first, Moto3 laid on
a fitting finale, with a first-this-year
win for Alex Rins, his Honda team-
mate Alex Marquez second; with the
KTM of Enea Bastianini and Miguel
Oliveira's Mahindra as close as paint –
with all four over the line inside .123 of
a second.
The first three had been disputing
the lead from the start, at the head
of the unusual enormous brawling
melee. When Oliveira joined them at
half distance, the quartet pulled away
convincingly for a private four-way
fight.
Each had at least one turn up
front; Rins's well-judged last sprint
was much as it had been at Brno two
weeks ago. The difference this time
was that he waited for the final lap.
Less than five seconds behind, the
same mass street-fight had continued
unabated; Niccolo Antonelli playing a
leading role, but with other hopefuls
taking turns up front of it, if only for a
corner.
Championship points leader Jack
Miller and his Red Bull KTM was in the
thick of it; fellow KTM development
rider Renato Fenati at the back, with
fifth to 17th covered by less than two
seconds over the line.
Miller later explained how the pair
was disadvantaged compared with
Bastianini up front.
"The new chassis doesn't seem to
work at every track that's a bit bumpy.
We both struggled here. Bastianini is
on the same chassis we had at Qatar,
and all the other races I won. We need
to go back to square one."
He was sixth to Jakub Kornfeil's
Early in the race, Dovizioso (04) was with
the two rivals at the front of the pack.
