OFF ROAD GEICO AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4/AUGUST 23, 2014 GWINNETT CENTER ARENA/DELUTH, GEORGIA P94 letti made it through qualifying, but after finishing his heat race, he decided he'd had enough for the night and didn't return for the Semi. Abbott Family Values Destry Abbott loves watching his son, Cooper, continue to improve at EnduroCross. The two enjoyed racing side-by-side in Atlanta. Of course, it's all fun and games un- til someone beats dear ol' dad in the hot laps, but in the end, Cooper played the good son and yielded his position in the LCQ so Destry could make a final bid for the main event. "It was a good night," Destry said. "Cooper actually beat me in the hot laps! I had a horrible hot lap so first thing he does is, 'I beat you in the hot laps!' which was cool. I was happy. It was sweet in one sense, but I rode like crap and went down a couple times. Then in my first heat race my forks came apart so I had to pull off. We only had one bike so I had to take the forks off his bike to put on my race bike. We ended up in the same LCQ, but he was nice enough to say, 'Dad, you can go ride the LCQ.' He took one for the team so that was pretty awe- some for him to let me borrow his forks. Destry made it count by getting into the main event, and fighting the unforgiving track for 15 rough laps. "It was just so difficult," Destry said. "It was a really, really tech- nical track tonight. I just pretty much thought, 'I'm not going to give up.' I stayed out there, wasn't feeling it, had a lot of crashes, but I wasn't going to pull off. That was my night, but in one sense, making the main with this group of riders was great, and there was an awesome crowd tonight!" Cooper recalled his evening, which included his first-ever po- dium in the Amateur main event. "I actually pulled the holeshot which I was pumped about! I led for the first corner, and actually went down in the Matrix. Two or three guys got by me and I just tried to ride consistent. I made a couple bobbles but still stayed up and finished second so I'm hap- py with that. I never give up. Re- ally, I didn't know [where I was]. I looked up at the score board second-to-last lap and was like, 'Oh, I'm in second!' But you really just had to ride smooth and have a smart race. It got really slick. I was really happy to finish second and get my first podium at Endu- roCross." CN PRO MAIN EVENT RESULTS: 1. Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) 2. Cody Webb (Beta) 3. Colton Haaker (Hon) 4. Taylor Robert (KTM) 5. Geoff Aaron (KTM) 6. Kyle Redmond (KTM) 7. Max Gerston (Beta) 8. Ty Tremaine (KTM) 9. Wally Palmer (Chr) 10. Bobby Prochnau (KTM) Motocrosser Phil Nicoletti gave his first EnduroCross a try.
