The title chase was a battle
between Sheehan and Kiwi
Levi Sherwood, but Sherwood
suffered an ankle injury during
qualifying on Saturday that put
him out of the final. That all but
handed the title to Sheehan,
who still turned up the heat
enough to come away with the
event win.
"I've been wanting this for
years, and it's a dream come
true. I'm on top of the world," said
an overwhelmed Sheehan.
WHIBLEY WINS BIG BOTTOM XC OMA
R
ound six of the eight-race
Parts Unlimited Off-Road
Motorcycle and ATV (OMA) Na-
tionals Series, the DP Brakes Big
Bottom Cross Country, was held
at the Brueggeman Family Farm
in rural Plainview, Illinois, August
23, under brutal weather condi-
tions. While the race length was
cut back to one hour and 30 min-
utes (plus a lap) for the leader,
the total race length was still two
hours due to the leader check-
ing in on lap six at one hour and
29 minutes. And that leader was
Paul Whibley on the N-Fab/Am-
Pro/Monster Energy Yamaha.
Whibley seemed undeterred
by the oppressive heat and hu-
midity, taking the FMF Holeshot
and leading all seven laps to col-
lect his fifth victory of the sea-
son. Following Whibley, just over
five minutes back, was veteran
rider and former OMA Champion
Jimmy Jarrett, who took second
place aboard his JJR Off-Road
KTM after starting dead last on
the combined Pro 1 and Pro 2
starting line.
Meanwhile, Adam Bonneur,
on the Woodstock KTM/Fly Rac-
ing Maxxis machine, rounded
out the Pro 1 podium, finishing
just 23 seconds behind Jarrett.
Fourth place overall went
to Pro 2 Fun Mart G2 OTR Ya-
maha's Cody Bollinger who
beat class points leader Mark
Heresco on the SRT Off-Road/
Kenda KTM 250 two-stroke, to
the checkers by just one and a
half seconds, placing Heresco
at number two in the pro 2 class
and fifth overall.
