contact, he took the overall 500cc-class win for the day. Jimmy Ellis won the
250cc class… Gene Romero outdueled Doug Sehl and Corky Keener to
win the Indy Mile… Twenty-nine-year-old Heikki Mikkola of Finland clinched
the 500cc World Motocross Championship in
Luxembourg. American Brad Lackey solidi-
fied a top-10 finish in the championship… Tor-
leif Hansen won the 250cc Motocross Grand
Prix on his home soil in Sweden.

Eddie Lawson was featured on the cover 30 years ago to accompany our inter-
view with the new 500cc World Champion…. Hank Scott and Ricky Graham
split wins at the Indy Mile doubleheader… We called it the "first Arenacross
ever"—the Suzuki Insport Arenacross that was held at the San Diego Sports Are-
na, where Broc Glover outdueled Mark Barnett to win both the 125 and 250cc
classes… We covered Mike Baldwin's win at Suzuka… Mike Melton edged out
Kevin Hines to win the Jack Pine National Enduro in Michigan.

James Stewart found his way onto the cover after clinching his second
125cc National MX title at Binghamton. Henry Wiles was also pictured on the
cover for his win at the Peoria TT… We reported about a new form of motor-
cycle racing that was going to soon make its debut in Las Vegas—Enduro-
Cross… Sete Gibernau kept his MotoGP title hopes alive with a victory over
Valentino Rossi at Brno… Barry Hawk returned from injury and took top
honors at the Rausch Creek GNCC in Pennsylvania.

Colin Edwards made front-page news for winning the Sears Point National.
Rich Oliver was also pictured for clinching the 250cc Championship… Sixteen-
year-old Kevin Windham, riding for Team Green Kawasaki, captured his eighth
career title at the AMA Amateur Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn's. He
also extended his moto win streak to 18 over the past three years at Loretta's.
Other champions included Casey Johnson (250/Open A Stock), Chris Wheel-
er (250 B Modified), Cynthia Cole (Women),
Gary Bailey (Masters 50+), Ricky Carmichael
(85cc 14-15 Stock and Modified) and Nick Wey
(85cc 12-13 Stock and Modified).
