VOL. 51 ISSUE 33 AUGUST 19, 2014 P47
Briefly...
Ken Roczen's overall victory in Indi-
ana marked his fifth win of the sea-
son. That moved him back to the
number-one position for the most
450 overall wins this season. Ryan
Dungey has four. James Stewart and
Eli Tomac have one each. Roczen
also has the most 450 class moto
wins on the season with a total of
eight. Dungey is next on the list with
six.
KTM's domination continues. The
manufacturer now has nine 450 Mo-
tocross wins this season. Suzuki and
Honda have one apiece.
Jessy Nelson's win makes him the
seventh rider this season to win a
moto in the 250 class, joining Jer-
emy Martin (with eight moto wins),
Blake Baggett (5), Cooper Webb (3),
Marvin Musquin (3) and Jason An-
derson and Christophe Pourcel with
one each.
Chad Reed had one of his best
weekends of the summer, finishing
sixth overall (7-6) on the Discount
Tire/TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki.
That result moved Reed past Swede
Fredrik Noren into the top 10 in the
450 class standings.
The new Ironman Raceway re-
ceived rave reviews by the riders
who had the chance to ride it prior to
race day. The inaugural Indiana Na-
tional marked only the second race
ever held on the track. The brand
new venue hosted a Loretta Lynn's
Regional Championship earlier this
summer. The property, also known
as "The Shaver Family Farm," has
hosted a round of the Grand Nation-
al Cross Country Series since 1995.

M
ud racing is for the truly
hardcore motocross
fan. It's not so much that
you get completely filthy, endure
grit in your eyes, mud pies to the
face or lose the occasional shoe
to a mud hole, you have to be a
hardcore fan to have any chance
of recognizing exactly who
you're watching after a lap or two
at a mudder. Within minutes rid-
ers become nothing more than
a mass of earthy brown silhou-
ettes flinging big clods this way
and that. A mudder is pure cha-
os with 40 riders simply hoping
to survive to the checkered flag.
Yet in spite of the challenges of
the inaugural Thor Indiana Na-
tional in Crawfordsville, Indiana,
Ken Roczen and Marvin Mus-
quin actually found a way to have
fun playing in the sticky Indiana
clay. It was a mindset that served
both the German and French-
man well as they emerged from
the gooey quagmire victorious in
their respective events.
The wins meant something
very different to each of the Red
Bull KTM riders. For Roczen his
win at the Ironman Motocross
National was pivotal in his quest
