DON'T HATE
THE PLAYER
Marc Marquez can of course
do no wrong and it's not just in
the way he opens the throttle.
His tactics earned the
amused praise of Valentino
Rossi, after he had towed An-
drea Iannone's satellite Ducati
around in qualifying, earning
the Italian satellite team rider
his second front-row start of the
year.
"I think Marc in this respect is very clever," Rossi
laughed, "because he always brings a Ducati with him.
He doesn't pull me or Jorge or Dani, only a Ducati."
In this way he forces his rivals to pass a Ducati, which
are generally at their fastest in the early laps before the
tires lose grip.
Lorenzo smiled at the notion. "I don't know if he
[Marquez] does it on purpose, if he waits for them … but
maybe when he sees one behind him he doesn't close
the throttle."
All true, according to the boy wonder.
"In qualifying it's impossible to worry about everyone
– you just try to control your
main opponents," Marquez
said. "Everyone tries to follow a
slipstream. For me it is normal,
and in Moto2 and Moto3 it's a
problem with riders waiting for a
fast one… but in MotoGP there are not so many bikes on
the track.
"But if Valentino, Jorge or Dani are there, for sure I will
close the throttle."
He dropped a first-yet F-bomb at the post-qualifying
press conference talking about how it had nearly gone
wrong.
"Iannone was behind me the whole lap and on the
last corner I went wide… and I thought 'f***, he will be on
pole.'"
Iannone was fastest, but only for that lap. "Next lap
I pushed really hard," said Marquez, and regained the
position.
Quite the tactician, Marc
Marquez gets called out for
towing Ducatis in qualifying,
which almost backfired on him
at Brno when Andrea Iannone
almost took pole.
This time it was the other
side of the Repsol Honda
garage celebrating in parc
ferme, which for Pedrosa was
his best moment - seeing his
mechanics after the race.
