We ran a photo of Evel Knievel climbing into his Skycycle II while testing
for his upcoming Snake River leap near Twin Falls, Idaho… Kenny Roberts
completed the Grand National Grand Slam after winning the TT at Peoria. The
win meant he won a National in all disciplines: mile, half mile, short track, road
racing and TT… Jimmy Weinert won both motos at the Moto-Masters National
MX at Mexico, New York… We showcased the
new 1975 Yamaha YZ Motocrossers featur-
ing its monoshock suspension… We tested
Honda's 350 Four.

A photo of Kawasaki's latest KDX200 was on the cover 30 years ago
to accompany our riding impression of the company's beloved enduro
bike… Mike Baldwin led a Honda V-3 sweep at Sears Point in the Grand
National Championship/Camel Pro Series… Rick Johnson (250cc) and
David Bailey (500cc) clinched the Grand National Motocross Champion-
ships at Washougal; Broc Glover swept both 500cc motos that day…
Eddie Hicks, Mike Healey and Bobby Moore were the stars of the NMA
Grand National Championships at Ponca City.

We featured our riding impression of the 2005 BMW K 1200 S on the
cover 10 years ago, including our first ride of the Yamaha YZ250 moto-
crosser… We reported the death of dirt tracker Aaron Creamer who lost
his life in a crash at Sturgis… Mike Alessi made his controversial pro de-
but at Millville, where Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart claimed the
250 and 125cc wins; Alessi went 27-DNF in the 250cc class… Joe Kopp
passed Chris Carr a few laps from the end to win the Rapid City Half Mile.

Mike LaRocco made front-page news for clinching the AMA 250cc National
Motocross Championship at Washougal with two rounds left on the schedule.
LaRocco and Ryan Hughes (125cc) claimed the overall victories… We cov-
ered Will Davis' win at the Denver Half Mile… We were also on hand to witness
Chris Carr's win at the Rapid City Half Mile… Team Green Kawasaki's Kevin
Windham and Andy Bower were the big winners at Ponca City; Shaun Pero-
lio, Jason Partridge, Travis Pastrana, Ricky
Carmichael, Sean Collier and Jonathon
Shimp were some of the other champs.
