AMA HARLEY-DAVIDSONS

M
ake all the old guy jokes
you want, but in the end
the only guys laughing
were Jeremy McWilliams and
Steve Rapp. The 50-year-old Mc-
Williams and 42-year-old Rapp
split wins in the AMA Pro Vance
& Hines Harley-Davidson Series
doubleheader at Indianapolis Mo-
tor Speedway, beating a bunch
of guys half their age. Okay that's
a bit of an exaggeration, but the
guys battling the two veterans in
the two races haven't reached
their 30
th
birthday yet.
Lets put it this way, McWilliams
started racing 500cc Grand Prix
motorcycles before the other wild
card entry – 18-year-old Ramden
Rosli from Malaysia – was born;
Kyle Wyman was three; Danny Es-
lick was seven; and the oldest of
the youngins', Benny Carlson, was
eight. So there's a bit of an age gap
between McWilliams and his chal-
lengers. Rapp's eight years young-
er than the Northern Irelander, but
a lot of people would consider 42
over the hill in racing.
But both McWilliams and
Rapp's performance on the race-
track screamed loud and clear:
Over the hill my ass.
