to Indy, Kawasaki-mounted riders
had won the last four GNC miles
dating back to last year. The new-
for-2014 no intake restrictor rule
implemented by AMA Pro Racing
seems to be doing the job of help-
ing level the playing field between
the different brands.
Tire wear was an issue on the
Indy Mile this year as several rid-
ers reported wearing out their
tires during the 25-lap National.
Even Coolbeth said he was slid-
ing around in the closing laps and
most riders clocked their fastest
laps mid-race and their times
steadily fell off towards the end.
One notable exception to that
was Briar Bauman, who clocked
Jared Mees (9), Brad
Baker (1), Johnson
(5) and Smith (42)
battle mid-race.
It was a race for
second as Coolbeth
had gone to the front
and left them behind
by this point.
