Briefly...
Cody Webb talked about why he
decided to branch out to national
enduros. "I just want to be known as
a versatile rider and for a long time I
was known just as a trials rider and
now I'm know for EnduroCross and
extreme enduro, but I want to ven-
ture out and ride some new races
and I felt like national enduro was the
next logical step," said Webb.
Colorado's Cody Shafer took the
win in the Rekluse Expert-AA class.
The Kawasaki rider tangled with a
lapper in the second test and badly
bent his header pipe, but he still
managed to top Husqvarna sup-
port rider Craig DeLong by just
six seconds, despite riding the next
two tests with the bent pipe. Third
in the Rekluse Expert-AA class was
KTM rider Kaleb Ramsay, while
Nathan Ferderer (GG) and Drew
Higgins (KTM) rounded out the top
five. DeLong sits atop the Rekluse
Expert-AA class standings with 191
points, with Higgins in second with
153 points and Caleb Haynes in third
with 97 points.
After the race, Andrew DeLong
commented on the course. "It was
fast flowing single-track; I really liked
it. It was actually one of the most fun
enduros I've done in my career," said
the factory Husqvarna rider.
The altitude was a major challenge
for racers, so Andrew DeLong and
his brother, Craig, came out a week
early to get acclimated. "We did
some training and riding at altitude to
get us ready for this race," Andrew
said. "We came out here to be pre-
pared and we were, so it turned out
to be a great day."
STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAN MOORE
A
ndrew DeLong is starting to figure out that smart
and smooth often beats fast and loose.
Facing a fast and, in places, difficult course,
which was complicated by the added stresses of a high-
altitude venue, the factory Husqvarna Racing rider from
Pennsylvania drew from previous experience and rode a
"fast but smart" race en route to his second win of the sea-
son at the Snow Shoe National Enduro in Grand Junction,
Colorado, round eight of the 2014 Kenda AMA National
Enduro Series, presented by Moose Racing.
Make no mistake, DeLong was fast all day, and he
kicked off the enduro by winning the opening test by 16
seconds over KTM support rider Grant Baylor. However,
in test two, when the trail became a little more treacher-
ous, DeLong chose to play it safe instead of risking a fall.
The end result was that DeLong lost the test by five sec-
onds to Grant Baylor's brother Steward, but at the same
time he may very well have won the race by doing so.
Andrew DeLong
steteched out his
points lead with
another win at
the Snow Shoe
National Enduro
in Colorado.
