AMA HARLEY-DAVIDSONS VANCE & HINES HARLEY-DAVIDSON SERIES ROUNDS 6 & 7/AUGUST 9-10, 2014 INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY/INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA P80 and McWilliams. McWilliams was trying to pull a disappearing act, but Carlson caught up. "You put a bit of pressure on yourself when you start from pole because I suppose you've done all that work and you don't want to give it away on the first lap," McWilliams said. "So I got the hammer down and actually thought stupidly that I could prob- ably break away. I gave it every- thing. I tried to maintain the tire a little bit, but to be honest that didn't really work in the end." Former AMA Supermoto Champion Carlson, hungry for his first AMA Pro Road Racing win, was going all in. "Turn one on the last lap across the finish line I almost went down," Carlson said. " I don't know the gentleman on the Petronas bike [Rosli], but I thought it's either I'm going to push him off line because I'm not going to let him [McWilliams] get away. I haven't won one yet so that's why. I think I had my foot off at one point and trying to gather the thing up." Carlson drafted McWilliams on the backstretch and was hoping to pull enough of a lead to avoid falling victim to the draft. But, un- fortunately, that plan didn't pan out and McWilliams caught back up to him in the final section be- fore the front straight and drafted past Carlson to take his second win at the Brickyard. "He taught me a few things from the middle to the end of the race," McWilliams said about Carlson. "When he got through - he was just using his superior height to get the bike back on the big, fat part of the tire and drive away from me. I thought, 'If he keeps doing this, we're going to be in trouble.' So I had to keep working very hard to get back on him on the last sector, because once the draft's broken, it's gone. I'm lucky Bloomington Harley gave me a bike that can stay in the draft. It's as good as it was last year. It hasn't changed and it's a pleasure to ride. That's a big weight off my shoulders to get a win here. I just wanted one again because it's such a special place to do it." Ending up fourth was Har- ley newbie Rosli ahead of the reigning series champion Rapp. Wyman's younger brother made a return to two-wheeedl racing and finished sixth on the Harv's Harley-Davidson. Ruthless Racing's Danny Es- lick made a gamble and flipped his tire in hopes the other com- pound would have more luck on the new surface. Unfortunately it backfired on the champion- ship leader and he had no grip at all. Eslick still managed seventh ahead of Josh Chisum Racing's Tyler O'Hara, who was right be- hind Eslick in the points until a di- sastrous race-two DNF that took O'Hara out of title contention. Rounding out the top 10 was Hayden Shultz and David Estok. Race two was a two-part act – two five-lap sprints after the red flag was brought out for Rosli's crash in the final corner. It was In race one it came down to a McWilliams (99) and Carlson (45) battle with Rapp (1) not close enough to strike.
