MOTOGP MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 10/AUGUST 10, 2014 INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY/INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA P46 MIKA X 2 The first attempt at running the Moto2 Grand Prix was indicative of the final result, as pole starter Mika Kallio sprinted away on his Marc VDS Kalex by two seconds after two laps, from carXpert Suter's Dominique Aegerte, his own teammate Tito Rabat and Paginas Amarillas Kalex's Maverick Vinales, with NGM Kalex's Simone Corsi hasing hard. It ended early after a four-bike crash on lap three left Mattia Pasini briefly unconscious at the trackside, and brought out the red flags. Randy Krummenacher was unhurt, but un- able to make the restart; Anthony West and Azlan Shah got away with it. Race distance was cut from 25 laps to 16, and they all set off again with that massed vuvuzela shriek just over half-an-hour later. Same again. Kallio took off, but this time found it harder. He'd elected to stay with the same tires while others had taken the opportunity of a shorter race to go for the softer option. All the same, he was better than a second clear after one lap, and man- aged to hang on to that lead for his third win of the season. It was a dour race compared with the other two classes. Rabat was second, but pressed hard by Vinales and Aegerter. They both passed him in one swoop with four laps left, and finished in that order. Corsi had been close, but had dropped to a lone fifth by the end. A long way back, the rest had been close throughout, with sixth to 11th covered by less than 1.5 seconds over the line. Sandro Cortese narrowly headed the gang from Malaysian hotshot Hafizh Syahrin's; Alex de Angelis was right behind, with West breath- ing down his neck while fending off Johann Zarco and Taka Nakagami. Torres, Rossi, Schrotter and Car- dus took the rest of the points. AMA Superbike Champion Josh Herrin had a second home-race nightmare, one of three brought down Pol Espargaro rode his Monster Tech 3 Yamaha to fifth in the GP, matching his best MotoGP finish of the year at Mugello.
