CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "Three-wheeled car? Yes. Motorcycle? Hell no." AFM Reunion Larry Lawrence's article on Norris Rancourt (Archives, Issue 30, July 29) has finally prompted me to act. The AFM has been around for 60 years. That's too important a mile- stone to just skip over – so we should have a party. If others agree, come to this year's final Bay Area race at Sonoma Raceway (nee Sears Point) on August 30. The plans? Nothing formal yet and it may be no more than cupcakes and old film footage, but to re- new old (sometimes really old) friendships, talk about long-ago competition or just admire the bunch of racers who are con- tinuing the tradition, show up at Sonoma on the 30th. Continue the conversation and look for updates here: www.AFMEx- Prez.blogspot.com. Kevin Smith Via the Internet Going Political II In response to Roger Clampp's suggestion (Voices, Issue 30, July 29) that Cycle News be the informant regarding motor- cycle politics, I'd advise anyone with an inkling of interest in this subject to become a member of the AMA. While I don't agree with the way they handle one particular road racing organization, they do offer the most in-depth motorcycle political coverage. I believe a membership is $49 annually and a magazine will keep the info flowing to you monthly. An added perk is that it comes with a roadside assistance program that is vastly better than AAA's ba- sic coverage (I'm not selling subscriptions, just a happy and informed member). Andrew Moore Via the Internet Polaris Slingshot How is the Polaris Slingshot a motorcycle when you steer it with a steering wheel and sit in seats? Three-wheeled car? Yes. Motorcycle? Hell no! Probably fun as hell to drive though. Geoff Giles Via Facebook Polaris Slingshot II At least the Can-Am Spyder has motorcycle controls. Steering wheel, bucket seats? Not even close. Just like the ridiculous Stallion that Motor Trike put out. I've ridden three-wheeled vehicles before, and even owned a couple - a Ural Tourist and a GL1500 with a Lehman conversion. The Stallion was a joke. I'm sure this rig is loads of fun and I'd love to "drive" one, but it's a lot further from a "mo- torcycle" than a Can-Am. John Stockman Via Facebook Dungey's Rise Ken Roczen is starting to look like he did last year in the second half of the 250 season, when a lot of people thought he had the championship after the first half and then he started to fall apart and choke in the second half. If Ryan Dungey can put that KTM up front and Eli Tomac can keep getting in between them, he has a great shot at getting the title still. Fourteen points can change fast. So weird that Tomac just always seems to end up being Roczen's kryptonite. At this rate Tomac may well be a regular winner next year, and definitely a contender for sure - even with Ryan Villopoto back.
