SERIES, PRESENTED BY MOTOWORKS AND DIRT BIKE
VOL. 51 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 5, 2014 P85
heading into the final two rounds
of the season.
Russell's WORCS Pro debut
was impressive. He landed on
the second spot on the podium,
as he felt right at home in the
trees. Russell also races fulltime
in the GNCC Series where he
is currently battling for the XC2
Pro Lites Championship, and his
experience in the trees showed
while battling with Sutherlin for
the win, which came down to the
last few turns of the final lap.
"It was good, I was going back
and forth with Gary Sutherlin, and
it was good racing!" Russell said.
"He pulled on me on the moto-
cross and some of the wide-open
sections. I got into the tight stuff
and the 250F was a little easier
to handle through the woods.
I would pull on him there and
he would then catch back up. I
just made too many mistakes,
and I crashed a couple times. I
thought it was going to be over,
and I thought Gary was going to
be gone, but I was able to reel
him back in. Right there at the
end we came through the Endu-
roCross section, and Gary found
a line on the right and made the
pass stick. This was my first Pro
WORCS race, so I am happy with
second."
Claiming the final spot on the
WORCS Pro podium was Rory
Sullivan from Oregon. Sullivan
got off to a near last-place start,
but by the third lap, he worked
his way up to third place, which
is where he stayed for the rest of
the race, finishing nearly five min-
utes behind the leaders.
"Last time I rode up here was
2008," Sullivan said. "It's close
to home, and I just wanted to
come up here and ride hard. I
work during the week, and I still
ride when I can, so in the last part
of the race, I was getting a little
fatigued, so it feels awesome to
finish in third."
