got things started by grabbing
the holeshot, but he eventually
settled into the fourth spot before
a mechanical issue took him out
of the race and off the podium for
the first time in three rounds.
After just one lap of racing,
Sutherlin and Russell had al-
ready gapped the field by nearly
30 seconds, as they battled each
other for the lead and pulled
away from the rest of the pack.
While doing so, the pair swapped
the lead back and forth several
times, but Sutherlin was able to
make the last-lap pass on Russell
just before the checkered flag to
take his fifth.
"Never give up! Hats off to
Ricky, he is really good in the
trees, and I just stuck with it,"
Sutherlin said. "I didn't let it get
me down when he got away from
me for a little bit, and I was able to
reel him back in. I just didn't give
up, and I got him on the last cor-
ner. It is good to be back on top!"
For Sutherlin, it was a huge
win after finishing seventh at the
last round, and the win extends
his points lead to 18 points over
reigning champion, Robby Bell,
