VOL. 51 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 5, 2014 P53
better than that, but we'll take it
from where we started qualifying
so bad and third row in the main
10
th
's not bad. It's mediocre. I
mean I'll take it; we're only down
six in the points with a lot of good
races for me coming up including
the half-miles and Peoria I've ran
fifth before. I think it's going to be
good."
Having an even worse day and
suffering the most in the cham-
pionship was Kenny Coolbeth,
who failed to make the main af-
ter stalling the bike while battling
with Halbert in the semi.
"It was a good battle," Cool-
beth said about his fight with Hal-
bert. "I should have just let him
go, but I wanted to race. It's one
of those things… he kind of did a
motocross pass on me and kind
of stuck it on the inside of him
at that time and I just stalled it. It
was racing. It sucks, but you've
got to keep your head up and
keep going."
COLINDRES REPEATS
If you were a betting man, straight
out of the gate you would've put
money on Dominic Colindres in
the Pro Singles class. The North-
ern Californian led nearly every
session on his Honda to take
the back-to-back Castle Rock TT
wins in the Pro Singles – this one
by over six seconds.
"We unloaded the bike right
off the truck and was fast from
there," Colindres said. "Fast
qualified every session. I really
like TTs. I've always done pretty
good at them. I got a win at Peo-
ria and I won here last year. I ride
motocross a lot during the week.
I used to race Supermoto so I
think that really helps me out with
these TTs."
Davis Fisher finished second
on the TJ Burnett Farms Honda
and moved himself back up into
the points lead. Fisher now sits
11 points ahead of Kyle Johnson
who, like Smith, left the Sacra-
mento Mile with the win and the
points lead.
Joining Colindres and Fisher
on the podium was Dan Bromley,
who was also the highest finish-
ing KTM in the midst of a bunch
of Hondas.
Washington native Cole Fred-
rickson finished fourth ahead of
Rodney Spencer Jr. Ryan Kearns
brought his Honda into sixth
trailed by the Elma Half Mile win-
ner Jarod Vanderkooi. In eighth
was Hunter Taylor followed by
Bronson Bauman.
KTM-mounted Ryan Wells
trailed the group of Hondas to be
the only other non-Honda in the
top 10.
RACIER AT THE ROCK
It's common knowledge: If you
want to win at Castle Rock you've
got to be fast first and fast all day.
Qualifying is important and by ex-
tension the heat races, because
a bad grid position requires all
but a miracle to have a shot at
that win. It's mostly one-lined,
thus difficult to pass.
Well the folks at Castle Rock
were trying to do something
about that. And their solution
was to add a second jump in the
infield, breaking up the big turn
three, four sweeper. Quite a few
of the riders tested there after the
Elma round and the plan was to
add an extra practice session to
allow riders to try both track con-
figurations and make a decision.
Ultimately the decision was made
to scrap it for the event and go
Rush's (54) hard earned lead
disappeared as Wiles (17) chased
him down near the end of the race.
