VOL. 51 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 5, 2014 P41
T
he Indian Motorcycle
Company again showed
that it's serious about
this motorcycle thing with the
unveiling of the 2015 Indian
Scout on Saturday night in
Sturgis – with actor Mark
Wahlberg and "American
Picker's" Mike Wolfe introduc-
ing the "first truly new Indian
Scout in more than 70 years."
The new Scout - with its
unique looking, liquid-cooled,
69-cubic-inch V-twin (with a
claimed 100 horsepower and
72.2 foot pounds of torque at
5900 rpm) – weighs in at a
"lightest in class" 558 pounds
and will carry a price tag of un-
der $11,000.
The V-twin sits in a weight-
saving cast-aluminum frame
and gets an adjustable rear
shock that provides three
inches of travel. The Scout
gets a 16-inch, black-cast rear
wheel with a 150mm tire. The
bike's braking power comes
via duel 298mm rotors up front
with a single 298mm rotor at
the rear.
The Scout sits low to the
ground with a seat height of
25.3 inches and its fuel tank
holds 3.3 gallons. The new-
est Indian will come in four
color options: Thunder Black,
Indian Motorcycle Red, Sil-
ver Smoke (matte finish) and
Thunder Black Smoke (matte
finish) and will hit dealership
floors late this year.
The Scout was obviously
designed to go head to head
with Harley's 584-pound
Sportster 1200 that carries a
price tag of $10,649. CN
