IN THE WIND P26 HAMPSHIRE STARS AT LORETTA'S F lorida's RJ Hamp- shire closed out his days as an amateur racer on a winning note at the 33rd Ama- teur National Moto- cross Championships at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, July 29-August 2. The Factory Con- nection/AMSOIL Hon- da rider was perfect en route to the Open Pro Sport and 250 A Championships. He won all six of his motos (three motos in each class) and was honored afterward with the AMA Horizon Award, the award given to the rider who shows the most promise coming out of the amateur ranks. Hampshire will begin his new chapter as a pro rider this weekend at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Champion- ship round at Unadilla in New Berlin, New York. Both Kawasaki and Yamaha had a good run at Loretta's with Kawasaki claiming 13 titles and Yamaha 12. Some of the big winners for Kawasaki were Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green riders Jett Reynolds (65cc 7-9 Limited and 7-11), Stilez Robertson (85cc 9-11 and Limited) and Garrett March- banks (Mini Sr. 1 12-13 and Mini Sr. 2 12-14), with each rider com- ing away with two titles. Sean Cantrell (Super Mini 1 12-15) and Austin Forkner (Super Mini 2 13- 16) also came away with class titles. The standout rider for Yamaha was New Jersey's Luke Ren- zland, who was a front-runner in both the 250cc and 450cc A classes and came home with the title in the 450cc division. Yamaha-mounted Bradley Taft went back to Missouri with a hard-fought win in the ultra-com- petitive 250cc B Limited class with 1-1-3 moto finishes. Tristan Charboneau also gave Yamaha a title in the 250cc B division with 2-1-2 moto scores, as well as in the 450cc B class, while Lorenzo Locurcio gave Ya- maha another number-one tro- phy in the 450cc B Limited class. KTM grabbed four titles, three of them coming in the small-bore classes, with Wyatt McGrath win- ning the 51cc 4-6 Special Limited title, Nicholas Romano the 51cc 7-8 Limited Championship and Joshua Varize the 65cc 10-11 Limited number-one trophy. The lone KTM big-bike title went to Ricky Renner in the Junior 25+ division. Hannah Hodges gave Suzuki its only Loretta's title riding an RM85 in the Girls 12-16 class. She won all three motos. Yamaha's Mackenzie Tricker took the Women 14+ title with 1-2- 5 moto finishes. Kit Palmer Florida's RJ Hampshire earned this year's AMA Horizon Award at Loretta Lynn's. PHOTOGRAPHY BY KIT PALMER
