meticulous and making smart
decisions, but as a racer some-
times you just have to pin it and
put that stuff behind you. Moto-
cross guys like Mike Brown, you
see just how much aggression
he has on the track; it's insane.
No one can even match the
amount of aggression he has. I
realized my weakenesses right
away; everyone told me what my
weaknesses are so I did some
homework. I rode a lot more
motocross with local pros and
it really upped my ability to push
harder on the bike and be more
aggressive. It showed in my re-
sults, definitely, the last two
years.
What do you think the big-
gest key was? Getting better
starts? Making passes?
I think it was just putting down
laps on a moto track and just go-
ing as hard as I could. I've only
really had two holeshots in my
racing career. I got one in Sac-
ramento (2014) but it was pure
luck; I got blown apart by all
the four-strokes off the line and
then snuck inside. It's tricky on
the two-stroke to get the start,
but my whole plan each race is
to be right up in the top-five on
each start. It's hard on the two-
stroke to get jumps and be able
to hold off all the guys on the
350s and 450s. I get the best
start I can and get through the
first lap clean, and I know from
doing a lot of moto that I have the
aggression to push forward now
and not make mistakes. Being on
the two-stroke, I think it's a little
easier to push later in the race
