INTERVIEW CODY WEBB – AMERICAN BETA AMA ENDUROCROSS RIDER P68 Championship. Cody Webb is well on his way to making 2014 his banner year, but there's still a long way to go. We caught up with the former national trials champion to hear about his season so far, and how he plans to keep the momentum going after the summer break, and what it's like to have the tar- get on his back. He also revealed how he pulled a win out of his hat at a national trials event, why he remains a two-stroke devotee, and of course, how he managed to summon the intensity it takes to conquer EnduroCross. You came out swinging this season of EnduroCross and so far things have been great. Talk about those first few rounds. That first round definitely couldn't have been any bet- ter, really. I came in with a lot of confidence from last year. I was glad to see it was a reasonably technical track; I made up a lot of ground each lap in the rock section while everyone else was floundering in the holes, getting stuck. I pulled away there with the big win. At X Games [the course] was like an arenacross track with some logs on the lips and water holes between take- offs. It definitely wasn't really to my liking but I made the best of it and still was able to sneak away with second place. I didn't feel confident with the track design, but I was still right there in posi- tion to make the podium. That's pretty much where I need to be every race. The wins come when they come, but I think the most important thing is to be consis- tent at each race. It's like they say, champi- onships are won on your bad days. Considering I wasn't feeling great – I was sketched out on some of the jumps, going for it third gear on an EnduroCross track on my two-stroke on dry- bake – I'll take second place for that. [laughs] After three rounds you are now leading the champion- ship (by one point). Is it con- fidence inspiring for you to be doing so well this early in the season? It's definitely right where I want to be, but it also puts pressure on me because I know just how good all the other guys are I'm riding against. Things have gone my way the first couple of races "I MUST HAVE EVERYTHING FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE EVERYTHING HAS BEEN GOING MY WAY SO FAR THIS YEAR."
