see Carr tonight, he'll probably
come harass me a little bit."
Smith is just a Mile guy in gen-
eral. Anytime the series shows
up at a Mile, the 31 year old from
Flint, Michigan, is a contender.
"It's just something that comes
natural to me," Smith said about
riding the big tracks. "You've got
to be really smooth and think
more than just do. I think that's a
lot of it."
Smith also attributes being
home on a Mile to growing up

Briefly...
The Dash for Cash was red flagged
after Brandon Robinson went down
after making contact with Sammy
Halbert. "A little bit of a racing inci-
dent," Robinson said. "Kind of one
of those things that could've been
avoided, but Sammy poked his nose
in there and took my bars. It's just
shit happens, I guess. Like I said, it
could've been avoided but its part of
it and we'll move on." Robinson was
unhurt in the incident.
Fortunately for Jared Mees the
Dash for Cash restart was just two
laps because that was just about
the time limit his face shield had.
Mees changed out shields before
the restart and didn't get it sealed
up properly. On the final lap, as he
was coming off the final corner, the
shield came off. An open eye port at
speed on a dusty, sandy dirt track is
not awesome, but winning the dash
and taking a championship point is.
Fans at the Sacramento Mile were
treated to an exhibition race between
two of sport's legends—Jay Spring-
steen and Chris Carr. The pair put
on a great show and in the end it was
"Springer" who came across the
line in first place. Apparently getting
older hasn't meant getting slower for
these two champs, as they were only
half a second off the leaders in the
Expert race.
Stevie Bonsey had trouble with his
A bike during the heat race, so he
had to jump on the bike Chris Carr
road in the exhibition race and, de-
spite it being an unknown, he was
pleasantly surprised. "That bike we
had, had a whole different set up,"
Bonsey said. "So I was kind of ner-
vous, but we went out there and it
