VOL. 51 ISSUE 30 JULY 29, 2014 P37 Briefly... JGR/Toyota Yamaha's Josh Grant was the fastest guy on the track at Washougal in the first practice ses- sion. Although the times for most of the racers dropped by as much as four seconds from the first to the second sessions, Grant's time from the first session was good enough to qualify him fifth overall with a 2:16.412. A big crash in the second qualifier saw him hit his head, and Grant had to miss the race because he failed the balance portion of the concussion evaluation. Grant was bummed that he couldn't race, but race day was also the day he and his wife, Ashley's, second child was due to be born. Rockstar Energy KTM's Jason An- derson also suffered a concussion at Washougal. While battling inside the top five in the first moto, Ander- son went down hard on one of the fastest sections of the track and was noticeably wobbly when he got up. He got his bike restarted, but the bars were very bent, and he went back to the pits and smartly opted not to push it and try to race moto two. After an impressive ride in moto one at Washougal that landed him in second place, just eight seconds behind fellow Frenchman and domi- nant Washougal force Marvin Mus- quin, Valli Motorsports Yamaha's Christophe Pourcel ran into some sort of issue in moto two. Pourcel had the holeshot and ran second to Justin Bogle with laptimes in the low 2:21s to start the second moto, then his times started dropping off: A 2:25 on lap five, followed by a 2:27, a continued on next page here on out is match what they did at the Washougal MX Na- tional, round nine of the 2014 Lu- cas Oil/AMA National Motocross Championship. At Washougal, not only did the Red Bull KTM squad win all four motos in both classes with Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin, but those two were also the top two qualifiers going into the motos as well. There was a KTM at the top of every results list that mattered on this day at Washougal. The or- ange team was impressive to say the least. 450 NATIONAL Love Affair Ryan Dungey has had a love af- fair with Washougal for most of his career. He won his first-ever AMA National here in the 250cc class back in 2008, and he won there every year after that, save for 2013, when he traded moto wins with eventual champion Ryan Villopoto and finished sec- With his sixth career victory at Washougal, Ryan Dungey has narrowed Ken Roczen's series lead down to just 14 points with six motos left.
