IN THE WIND P30 national speedway scene, includ- ing a defeat of the current World Champion, Tai Woffinden. Ricky Wells contributed six points, while 17-year-old Max Ruml, drafted as a late replacement for the injured Ryan Fisher, scored a remarkable four points in only his second race on the bigger European tracks. Team USA manager and 1996 Speedway World Champion Billy Hamill paid tribute to his team. "We are only two and one- half years into this program and we have gone from being a non- contender to a team that can challenge anyone. We have had some remarkable performances in the last few years, but tonight was the most satisfying as it was the first time where we have seen all four team riders scoring valu- able points. Greg [Hancock], of course, thrives on representing Team USA and it was another su- perlative display from him. Ricky battled hard as expected but it was the performances of Gino and Max that helped the team turn the corner. "When we first conceived of competing for the World Cup in 2012, the main goal was to in- spire young American speedway riders who may not remember the glory days of the '80s and '90s just how it should be done when representing Team USA. Gino and Max were inspired by that and have worked hard to earn their team spots, and now their performances will also in- spire their peers back in the States. Each year we make huge leaps towards eventually winning another world championship. We are now a serious contender and it's only going to get better as we continue to develop more young speedway talent." Team USA will next travel to Bydgoszcz, Poland for the SWC Race Off on July 31. They will face Australia and the second and third placed teams from the July 29th SWC Event 2 in Swe- den. Only the winner of the SWC Race Off will advance to the SWC Final on August 2 in Bydgoszcz.
