WHEELER GETTING READY TO ROLL
S
eventy-year-old Sam Wheel-
er is preparing to break the
motorcycle land speed record
with a run of 400 mph-plus at the
Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah this
summer. Wheeler will ride his
aerodynamic, 18-foot-long Parts
Unlimited/EZ Hook streamliner
that weighs in at less than 1200
pounds while producing some
600 horsepower.
The current record is 376 mph
set by the Ack Attack in 2010.
Wheeler has been setting mo-
torcycle land speeds record for
50 years and he built his first
streamliner while still in high
school.
The new streamliner is pow-
ered by a 1300cc Vance & Hines-
prepared Suzuki Hayabusa
engine that features a new trans-
mission, carbon-fiber reinforced
toothed belt drive, new wheels
and tires rated for 450 mph from
Goodyear/Dunlop.
Sam Wheeler
hopes to break
over 400 mph at
the Bonneville
Salt Flats this
summer.
