MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE/LEXINGTON, OHIO

AMA GO PRO DAYTONA SPORTBIKE SERIES
there are only a couple of pass-
ing spots on the track. It's a huge
win for the team. We've got a
good bike setup right now and
we'll just try to keep clicking off
these wins."
Gagne said he knew he was
being pursued and he tried to
brake as late as possible off the
back straight.
"I ended up getting into the
lead a few laps in and I just put
my head down and clicked off
consistent laps to see if we could
break up the group a little bit,"
Gagne said. "I knew Jake was
right on me. I thought [it was Lew-
is], because there was just one
guy back there. That last lap I was
leading on the back straight and I
knew Jake was probably going to
try to go. I tried to brake as late as
I could, but just not enough. He
snuck up in there and after that
there wasn't a whole lot to pass
on the rest of that lap. He earned
that win and we've got another
shot at it this afternoon."
Eslick was a distant third - six-
seconds back from the lead-
ers. He said some over aggres-
sive riding by fellow Oklahoman
Dane Westby cost him after the
two got mixed up into some fair-
ing banging that ultimately cost
them time.
"Westby was trying to be a
hero and kind of screwed me on
going with this lead pack," Eslick
said. "He's my buddy and all at
home, but when the helmets are
on it's go time. I didn't have the
bike for it and I was trying to over-
ride it."
Gerloff and Westby rounded
out the top five. Early leader
Beach seemed to struggle with
grip as the race wore on and
dropped back to sixth at the fin-
ish.
The win put Gagne and Lewis
into a tie for the series lead, at
least for a few hours.
Still Some Fight Left
When you look at it on paper,
DiSalvo isn't really that old – just
30 – but he still has 10 years or
better on the young guns of Day-
tona SportBike. And while the
spotlight has been on the youth
movement in DSB this season,
