T
he Daytona SportBike
races at Mid-Ohio Sports
car Course were a story of
contrasts. On one hand you have
a rising star in Jake Lewis; the
gangly Kentuckian teenager who
with his second-career DSB win
proved that he is truly a champi-
onship contender in only his sec-
ond season in the class. On the
other hand there was race two
winner Jason DiSalvo, one of the
veterans of the class, a former
GP hopeful who some thought
was in a slow fade to eventual re-
tirement. But with his unexpected
Mid-Ohio victory, he showed that
there's still plenty of twist left in
his 30-year-old throttle wrist.
Series leader Jake Gagne had
a steady, if not spectacular Mid-
Ohio. As they say, he did what he
needed to do. A pair of runner-
up finishes had the desired effect
– adding two more points to his
championship lead over Lewis.
Gagne now leads by seven, 189-
182, with just two races in New
Jersey remaining. The champion-
ship likely comes down to those
