IN THE WIND P28 CRUTCHLOW TO STAY WITH DUCATI D ucati's Cal Crutchlow confirmed during World Ducati Week 2014 at Misano that he will stay with the team in 2015, ending speculation that he would opt out of the second year of his contract with the Italian company. "Andrea [Dovizioso] is hav- ing a great season, but we need to keep working hard in the second half of the year," Crutchlow said in Italy. "I am certain that they are working hard in the factory in Italy. We hope to keep get- ting closer to the front guys. Marc [Marquez] seems like he is from another planet, but Andrea [Iannone] beat him in the past." MotoGP Project Director Paolo Ciabatti also confirmed the sign- ing of Andrea Dovizioso on the team for 2015 and 2016. "Dovizioso has renewed his contract this morning," Ciabatti said. "Cal has a contract with us for next season and he will contin- ue in the 'official' team next year. [Andrea] Iannone has done even better than we expected and we want him to stay with us. We want to offer him better technical sup- port and next week we should be able to decide how to do it, what the contract will be and the exact technical package." Ducati Corse general manager Luigi Dall'Igna also hopes up- dates, including a new chassis, will help the team in the second half of the season. "We have made some prog- ress, but not enough and we need to work even harder in the second half of the season," he said. "We have a new fairing coming soon and we'll have a new chassis at Aragon. Our goal, which will be difficult to achieve before the end of the year but not impossible, is to reduce the gap to the front to 10 seconds." Crutchlow made the trip to It- aly with heavy bandages on both arms after undergoing surgery on both arms on Wednesday in Spain to relieve arm pump (com- partment syndrome). He is ex- pected to be ready to race again after the summer break – at the next round of the MotoGP World Championship, the Red Bull In- dianapolis Grand Prix in early Au- gust. The surgery took place at the Universitario Quiron Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. Crutchlow stayed the night in the hospital and then headed to Misano for Ducati Week. Noted Spanish surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir performed the surgery. This isn't Crutchlow's first arm- pump surgery. He's had his left forearm operated on once and his right three times. The proce- dure included incisions to release the pressure on the muscle and "mesenchymal cells" were im- planted to prevent future forma- tion of liquid. Cal Crutchlow will be back with Ducati in MotoGP next year. Ditto for Andrea Dovizioso. PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF DUCATI CORSE
